KUN Bravo Shoulder Rest
OVERVIEW:
KUN is one of the most recognised brands when it comes to Shoulder Rests. There are many different models in the KUN lineup and we will be looking at the KUN Bravo Shoulder Rest in today’s review. This model can be found in most music shop worldwide as well as most online shops.
ERGONOMICS AND COMFORT:
KUN Bravo is, in a nutshell, an upgraded version of the standard issue KUN Violin Shoulder rest. It is the same shape and follows the same curvature as the standard shoulder rest so the levels of comfort are similar, which is definitely not a bad thing.
DESIGN AND STYLE:
The design of the Bravo is similar to the standard shoulder rest, albeit much more attractive. The wood is beautifully contrasted against the sponge portion, adding massive appeal to the standard ‘no-nonsense educational tool’ the standard shoulder rest has become known to be.
ADJUSTABILITY:
Similar to the standard KUN shoulder rest, the only adjustment available on this model is the height of the legs as well as the width of the rest, which offer more than enough range for violinists. Again, you might want to look elsewhere if the shoulder rest does not sit nicely on your shoulder, as there is no chance whatsoever of adjusting the curvature of the beautiful wooden frame.
PRICE AND VALUE:
From a range of sellers (both brick and mortar as well as online), the KUN Bravo Shoulder Rest retails from USD73 to USD125. This is definitely not cheap and KUN does ask a lot for what seems to be just a piece of wood that replaces the plastic in the standard shoulder rest. That being said, the wood does add a premium look and feel to the KUN Bravo.
VERDICT AND CONCLUSION:
CONSIDER IT! Even though KUN is a well-known brand trusted by musicians all over the world, the KUN Bravo appears to be nothing much more than a aesthetically more pleasing version of the standard issue. Is it worth the premium over the standard shoulder rest? We’ll leave you to answer that yourself!
