KUN VOCE Shoulder Rest
OVERVIEW:
KUN is one of the most recognised brands when it comes to Shoulder Rests. There are many different models in the KUN lineup and we will be looking at the KUN Voce Shoulder Rest in today’s review. This model can be found in most music shop worldwide as well as most online shops.
ERGONOMICS AND COMFORT:
Right from the get go, the shoulder rest feels very ‘high’ even in it’s shortest setting. This was either designed for violinists with long necks or giraffes. It was not very comfortable to use even for short periods of time. The use of carbon fibre means that the shoulder rest is very light, but put it on your shoulder with a violin resting on it and the difference to the touch is negligible.
DESIGN AND STYLE:
Design is usually subjective but the KUN Voce just looks bulky and clumsy, especially beside its much better looking brothers, KUN Collapsible Shoulder Rest and KUN Bravo. The use of carbon fibre (usually a cool and very appealing finish) did not help much at all aesthetically.
ADJUSTABILITY:
Again, no room for adjustment if you are looking for a shoulder rest that fits the curvature of your shoulder. However, the width can be easily adjusted by a clever system that KUN has put in place which allows easy locking and unlocking of the legs.
PRICE AND VALUE:
From a range of sellers (both brick and mortar as well as online), the KUN Bravo Shoulder Rest retails from USD80 to USD110. Again, KUN is asking for a lot of money for what seems to be a very gimmicky shoulder rest that uses ‘interesting’ or ‘new’ materials.
VERDICT AND CONCLUSION:
AVOID IT! The KUN Voce is special in its own right but the asking price for an ‘interesting’ and lightweight shoulder rest will definitely put some people off.
